This constituency covers an approximate area of 573 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Kanniyakumari is: 8°16'31.8"N 77°29'04.6"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 75.19%, while it was 75.08% in 2016, and 75.8% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Thalavai Sundaram N of AIADMK won in this constituency beating Austin S of DMK by a margin of 16213 votes which was 7.25% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Austin. S of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Thalavai Sundaram. N of AIADMK by a margin of 5912 votes which was 2.82% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Patchaimal.K.T of AIADMK won this seat defeating Suresh Rajan.N of DMK by a margin of 17804 votes which was 9.88% of the total votes polled for the seat.
