This constituency covers an approximate area of 12 square kilometers and the geographic coordinates of Thousand Lights is: 13°03'10.8"N 80°14'34.1"E.

According to data released by the Election Commission of India, In 2021, this seat registered a turnout of 56.25%, while it was 60.45% in 2016, and 66.79% in 2011.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Ezhilan N of DMK won in this constituency beating Kushboo Sundar of BJP by a margin of 32462 votes which was 24.13% of the total votes cast. In 2016, Selvam Ku. Ka of DMK was the winner in this seat beating Valarmathi B of AIADMK by a margin of 8829 votes which was 6.2% of the total votes polled in the constituency. In the 2011 Assembly elections, Valarmathi. B of AIADMK won this seat defeating Hasan Mohamed Jinnah of DMK by a margin of 7592 votes which was 5.68% of the total votes polled for the seat.

In the 2021 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, Ezhilan N of DMK had a vote share of 53.41% in this seat. In the 2016 Assembly elections, Selvam Ku. Ka of DMK got a vote share of 43.35% , In the 2011 Assembly elections, Valarmathi. B of AIADMK got a vote share of 50.55% in Thousand Lights.
